Excerpts:
Since movies are one of the tools that help to address social vices, do you encourage us to watch more movies at these times?
Oh yes, I agree with you that movies are very powerful tool to fight social vices. But remember as an entertainer, sometimes, we say there is no entertainment just for entertainment sake. You want to be sure that someone learns something out of the efforts or out of the story that you are trying to tell in the movie and all of that. And I think a lot of directors or film producers would say to you, that something happened and they want to either correct a notion in the society or there is a personal story of someone that they feel other people would learn one thing or the other from. So, ehm, I think there is no doubt about the fact that movies have the tendency or capacity to help people feel better.
Are you then saying that people should go on now and be looking for movies that would make them feel better?
Oh yes, why not? It's a whole lot of time (she laughs loudly) in our hands especially with the lock-down. So, why not? But I'm not saying that they are going to be seeing movies that were specifically made to answer questions that are here now. But, If you find a movie that would speak to you and make you relax a bit, go for it. It's a whole lot of time that people have on their hands remember? Especially with the lock-down just as I have said. You could learn new things from movies. Don't forget that I'm not assuring you of movies that have been made specifically to address Coronavirus. But I'm expecting that after this whole Corona thing, we might get movies talking specifically about the virus or the kind of things that went on during coronavirus lock down
Like what things are you referring to?
Like the gender-based violence which has sky-rocketed because couples have been forced to stay in the same environment for so long like over months and so managing that space has been difficult. The dynamics of managing the space has changed and so, there is more gender violence happening at home.
Rape cases too have also gone up. It took a pandemic like this for us to see how relatable these issues could be.
Thank you mama for sharing, it took the pandemic to expose a lot of mishaps
