‘The outbreak will disrupt
showbiz in Nigeria and all over the
world’
In a matter of some
hours from now Lagos state, Ogun and
Federal Capital Territory lock-down would be eased. Yet some
people are still raising their voices against it. Nollywood actress Ese Lami George
for instance has not stopped kicking against the idea. Hear her:
“The
ease on the lock-down does come with some worries. I think it’s somewhat
untimely and risky. I understand the fact that people need to go out there and
work and fend for their families seeing that government hasn’t done enough
to help her citizens in these
desperate times. But I worry that the precautionary measures the government has
been highlighting may be falling on some people’s deaf ears. How are we sure
that people would strictly adhere to all that we have been doing during the
lockdown and make it our “new normal?”
‘There
has to be strict safety rules on set and movie locations’
“Moving forward, life
as we know it has changed and every industry including Nollywood would have to adapt to these changes. This outbreak has
disrupted entertainment events here and all around the world. From theatrical
releases of blockbuster movies to annual
film festivals, theater performances and award shows.
‘The days of multiple crew on set is over’
When productions
recommence soon, production companies, executive producers, key crew members (departmental
heads)and government agencies would have
to work together to map out safe ways to resume filming amidst this Covid-19 pandemic.
‘Few people on set is the best way to
ensure safety’
“There has to be
strict safety rules on movie sets. Then secondly, every actor and crew member
for production must be tested first and they must be required to wear face mask and other
forms of PPE. Also the days of multiple
crew on set is over as very few people on set is the best way of ensuring
everyone’s safety. The changes are numerous and can’t be avoided to ensure that
everyone stays alive while doing what they
love. Hopefully by Gods grace we’ll beat this”.
