The Rivers Stateborn beauty, who studied Mass Communication at Benson Idahosa University, Edo State, in this interview withADAEZE AMOS relives her tenure as beauty queen.
As a beauty queen in 2014, what do you remember with fondness? I represented the entire African continent in Jamaica for the Miss Global International Pageant. I was the only black lady and I met a lot of beautiful ladies from all over the world and it was an amazing experience.
What’s your advice for the future beauty queens?
To the upcoming beauty queens, my advice is that there is no hurry in life. What will be will be. Just trust God and no matter how long it takes for you to get to the top, always carry yourself well bearing respect and pride in mind.
What were some of the things you would have loved to do that you couldn’t because of lack of time?
I would have loved to set up an organisation to take out homeless and the less privileged from the streets, cater for them and send them to school because I believe that education is power.
What footprints did you leave when you handed your crown to the next queen?
I love to care for orphans and the less privileged. I’m sure that my successor should know that and also continue from where I stopped.
What thrilled you so much about being a beauty queen?
I loved the attention I was getting and the preferential treatment most times when I go for an occasion. What positive lifestyles did you imbibe when you were c r owned that you still keep to this day? I alway s p r ay n o matter what and in everything I do it opens doors for me. I pray because it’s the only way of communication I know between me and God.
Do you have plans to participate in bigger pageants?
Yes, definitely this year I’m willing to try my hands on either Most Beautiful Girl or Miss United Nations.
What has life taught you as a queen?
Life as a beauty queen has taught me to be poised, elegant and outspoken. It has taught me to be a good example and a leader to young ladies. Life has taught me to make good use of my tenure while it lasts.
What is your philosophy?
Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny
What is the craziest thing a male fan has ever done to you?
He stalked me to my house.
When you are attending a glamorous event, how do you outshine others on the red carpet?
I don’t do anything in particular other than to be myself with a statement look, poise, grace and charisma. With all that, I can shine than the star itself.
What tickles your fancy about fashion?
I’m a lover of good clothes and shoes. I can’t do without them.
What is your fashion no-no?
I can’t be caught wearing flats or slip- pers to any event.
What part of your body do you flaunt proudly?
I must admire that I have a good body, so I try t o flaunt it. When you are down,
what do you do to derive inspiration?
I always listen to music and talk to my friends.
Who are the present and ex-beauty queens you admire?
I love Powede Lawrence because she seems to be a kind person and I love her sense of fashion. I admire Queen Celestine who interestingly is my friend. She is jovial, down to earth and a goal-getter.
Wht is your most striking point?
My face is my most striking point.
Is there any naughty thing you have ever done?
When I was a little girl, I broke my mum’s flower pot in the verandah and poured water on the clay. Then I used it to stain all the furniture. She didn’t know what to do to me when she saw it.
